Cecil (short for Cecilia) became the Office Manager at Ashland in March of 2015. Born and raised in Baltimore, Cecil attended The Catholic High School of Baltimore and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Mount St. Mary’s University.
Prior to joining the staff at Ashland, she worked for BGE/Constellation Energy for 25+ years and most recently for the Ignatian Volunteer Corps. She has sung in church choirs for over 30 years, volunteered as a youth group leader, and chaired the planning committee for children’s liturgies. Cecil lives in the Parkville/Carney area and is the primary caregiver for her 97-year-old mom. She likes music, cooking, reading, sports (Go Orioles! Go Ravens!).

What do you do at Ashland?
I manage the day-to-day activities which keep the church office running smoothly. From answering phones, preparing PowerPoints for Sunday worship, updating the database, writing the newsletter, ordering supplies to supporting Session and Pastor Shannon in whatever she needs to provide the best spiritual life for everyone at Ashland.
Why do you do what you do?
I was raised in a faith filled family where life revolved around our church life. I think I spent more time at church than school growing up! I was always involved in church in some way from singing in folk group & choir, youth group leader, chairing & planning for the children’s liturgy committee which gave me a way to live my faith while helping others. My work at Ashland allows me to continue to use my skills in a faith based setting. I love what I do! Â
Why Ashland?
When I interviewed with Pastor Shannon, she told me one of my duties would be to create PowerPoints of the music for worship. She showed me one of the sheets of music from the contemporary group that I would have to use – it was words with guitar chords, handwritten notes of what to sing where. I instantly connected to my many years of singing in folk group at church with the same type of music sheets – I felt like I was home! The people of Ashland welcomed me and are so friendly and supportive.
Talk to me about?
Anything! Music, history, different religions, your pets (I love dogs & cats), your children, families, sports, TV programs, church related questions, current events, travel.
When I’m not at Ashland, you’ll mostly likely find me…
At home reading mystery novels, binge watching cooking competitions, hanging out with friends, cooking, researching my family history on Ancestry, listening to music. I also spend time with my 97 year old mom at her assisted living facility.
