Pastor Van Utt joined Ashland as our Interim Pastor during an exciting period of transformation. She has quickly moved to the heart of many church activities, including the Deep Shift transformation initiative. Gretchen grew up on the Connecticut shoreline, attended Kirkland College (Hamilton College) in Clinton, NY (BA 1973), and Harvard University (M.Div., 1976). Following Divinity School, she served as Chaplain, Co-Director of the First Year Program, and Lecturer in the Department of Religion and Philosophy at Goucher College (1977-83), and then as University Chaplain at Johns Hopkins (1984-93). She then served as Interim Minister at three churches in the Baltimore Presbytery before accepting a call in 1997 to be Pastor of Springfield Presbyterian in Sykesville. In early 2005, however, she returned to her true love, interim ministry, accepting a call at Harundale Currently, Gretchen serves the Baltimore Presbytery on the Vision Committee of the Council, the Worship Committee, and the Permanent Judicial Commission.
