Reflection for Parents

Strangers and Friends
 
Read together the passage in Mark 7:24-37.
There are two healing stories here-one a healing from afar and one a healing close-up.
Both are strangers to Jesus, both present barriers to relationship.
The woman is a gentile, a foreigner and a woman.
The man is deaf and dumb, so cannot speak for himself.
Each demonstrates the power of asking for healing for another person.
In prayer jargon this is called intercessory prayer.
Praying on behalf of another.
 
Ask your children if there is someone that they would like to pray for.
You might want to make a commitment to pray together for that person each day for a week.

We thank You, O Lord,
for the stories that tell of your boundless love.
As we pray for those we love,
and for those we may not even know,
we begin to walk in the way of Jesus.
