Deep Shift Transformation Update On Saturday, September 6, an intrepid group from Ashland joined representatives from nine other churches, braving the heavy rains, to share transformation experiences and learn together at Brown Memorial Woodbrook Presbyterian Church. The event was sponsored by Deep Shift and the Baltimore Presbytery. Coaches Jeff Patton and Linnea Capshaw led us in a series of exercises and lectures. We were also treated to several stories told by Tracy Radosevic, a Biblical Storyteller. Tracy engaged all present with her treatment of 'The Good Samaritan' and other stories in an entertaining and thought provoking manner. As a part of our transformation process and because storytelling is part of our heritage, our coaches are asking that we select a Bible story that captures the essence of Ashland -- our spirit, identity, mission, community, etc. You are invited to suggest Bible stories that you believe should be considered. We were so impressed by the storytelling that we have invited Tracy to come to Ashland. As soon as Tracy has accepted, we will provide further details. A highlight of our day with the Deep Shift coaches was Jeff's lecture / discussion of conflict as it relates to our process. Jeff made it clear that, at times during our transformation process, conflict would arise -- we have already seen this at Ashland. Fortunately, we are not journeying down uncharted roads. Other congregations have travelled some of this same territory in their transformations. Jeff shared that while conflict can be unpleasant, it is a natural byproduct of change. Conflict is not always negative; it is a sign that people are engaging in the process. Conflict can be healthy when effectively managed. Healthy conflict can lead to growth and innovation, new ways of thinking, discovery of additional options and a new sense of purpose and community. If the conflict is understood, it can be effectively harnessed and can help us reach consensus and strengthen relationships. Over the last month, the Transformation Prayer Team has been meeting to share perspectives, discuss the Ashland transformation process and pray together. We pray for those we know are in need of God's healing touch and we pray for Ashland, its leadership and for the Healthy Church Team. We feel strongly that our prayers are being answered. Please consider joining us on any Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm. Also, please let us know of your prayer concerns. This time of prayer and fellowship has been both inspiring and nourishing. Everyone is welcome! The Elders remain steadfastly committed to our transformation process. We want to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to have questions and concerns answered. Please share those questions and concers with Rev. Morgan or any Elder. You may also mail your concern, drop off a note or send an e-mail (office@ashlandpc.org) tot he Ashland office.
