Women's Association

The Women’s Association meets monthly for Bible Study, service and fellowship.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength … Love your neighbor as yourself.” Mark 12:30-31 NIV

Ashland activities are founded in and energized by love.  From the outward gifts of mission and service to the community, through the routine chores of property and administration, to the celebration of God’s love in worship.  Love is nurtured within our congregation by the Deacons and Women’s Association who provide generous congregational care and hospitality programs.

Board of Deacons

The ministry of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress.  Deacons are elected by the congregation for a three year term.

At Ashland, the Board of Deacons coordinates the work of the Congregational Care and Hospitality teams.

Board of Deacons

Board of Deacons: Penny DeBoer, JoAnn Ruther, Pastor Shannon Meacham, Debbie Nassau, Barbara Porter. Not present: Nancy Starr

Congregational Care: Ashland Angels

The Congregational Care Team provides care and support to church members who are ill or otherwise in need of care and support.   The Care Team, aka Ashland Angels, are responsible for:

  • Contact with the Pastor regarding care needs
  • Phone calls and follow-up calls as needed
  • Cards and notes to those with needs or joys
  • Meals as needed
  • Hospital and home visits
  • Food and service for funeral or memorial receptions if desired
  • Transportation if needed

Many Ashland folks help each other out on a regular basis and this provides tremendous support to the Care Team.  These “secret angels” help out with meals, transportation, cards and visits and often go unrecognized.  In addition, back-up cooks are often called to provide extra meals and they are always willing to help.

Fellowship and hospitality events are organized throughout the year, giving Ashland members a chance to relax, play together and get to know one another.   Activities have included potluck luncheons, parties in members homes, visits to local restaurants, chili cook-off, the baking club and movie nights.

Coffee hours follow the traditional service on the second Sunday of each month and are supported by groups within the church on a rotating basis.

Women’s Association

While not officially linked to the Board of Deacons, the Women’s Association meets monthly for fellowship and Bible Study to nurture members in their service to the church community and personal spiritual growth.

Love Banner

God’s love is inclusive. God embraces us. God waits for us. We accept God’s love by choosing to make a commitment to faith. God’s love is extended in our interactions with each other, even strangers, and those with whom we disagree. In love we recognize the unique value of each individual, while remaining grounded in God’s redeeming love that overcomes exclusion and injustice. When we cherish love, harshness falls from our expression. In love, God came to us, died for us and lives within us
