“I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.” John 13:15 The Ashland Church Community has embraced a wide variety of mission and service projects as an expression of their love for God, the community and one another. In His earthly ministry and service, Jesus set an example for us. We are taught to comfort the sick, shelter the homeless, stand with the oppressed, steward the earth and share our resources. Mission goes beyond kindness; it builds foundations that become a base for life-giving relationship with others. It extends and strengthens our community as we embrace each other in partnership as part of God’s Kingdom on earth. Here is a summary of some of the active projects. Is there a project to which God calls you? If you would like to join this work, please contact the church office. Note that all projects sponsored by the church are subject to the approval of Session. The Linus Project – provides handmade blankets to critically ill children. The Ashland chapter serves as a gathering point for contributions throughout the area. Led by Fay Husted. Habitat for Humanity – the Ashland team is very active in projects serving families in need in Baltimore City. Led by Dick Uhler. “Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; celebrate his lovely name with music.” Psalm 135:3 NLT Worship is a celebration and spiritual encounter with God which provides opportunities for people to be nurtured and encouraged. Ashland has two worship services at 9am and 11am most of the year, with a single 10am worship service in the summer. Summer worship offers a mix of the music worship team, piano, and organ, soloists and small groups. Communion is offered at both services, on the first Sunday of the month. All believers are invited to partake. Those who are unable to attend worship are welcome to contact to church office and request Home Communion. Children and Youth are welcome in worship. Children’s Bibles are in each pew, and activity binders are available during worship. Weekly children’s messages are delivered to children during the second service, and there is childcare available for children under six during worship and Sunday School. Children and youth are actively involved in services as liturgists, ushers and musicians. Music is a valued way of praising God at Ashland Church, through the praise team, chancel choir, and other talented musicians. The second Sunday of each month, guest musicians share their talents, such as The Chesapeake Wind Ensemble and Pandemic Steel Drum Band. Highlights of this year’s worship experiences include: – The use of prayer stations to involve all generations in “hands on” activities – A stewardship service with the release of dozens of white...
What are Sunday services like?
The early service at 9 AM is an informal service with music led by the worship team (guitars, drums, keys, vocals). While the tone is casual and friendly, the service includes Presbyterian elements of worship including confession, scripture reading and pastoral message. To find out more click on the link for Early Worship.
At the 11 AM service, we follow a standard Presbyterian order of worship with traditional hymns and a more formal liturgy. Music is played primarily on the organ and piano with the chancel choir singing. To find out more click on the link for 11AM Worship.
